Child Psychology specialises in understanding thought processes and actions of children and interpreting them to help resolve issues causing emotional or behavioural problems.

The psychologists at Paediatric Play provide assessment, counselling and therapy for children, adolescents and young adults up to the age of 25 and their families.

Paediatric psychologists can also perform psycho-educational assessments to provide information regarding a child’s intellectual capacity, or cognitive functioning, and their academic achievement. A psycho-educational assessment also helps identify any specific learning difficulties.

Assessments

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) evaluations, psycho-educational assessments, and dyslexia assessments are critical tools in understanding and supporting a child’s unique learning and behavioral needs. These assessments often provide insights into underlying challenges, helping educators and caregivers implement targeted interventions. Additionally, tools such as the Child Behaviour Checklist are commonly used to gauge emotional and social functioning, offering a broader picture of a child’s well-being.

Standardized measures like the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition (WISC-V), and the Adaptive Behaviour Assessment System, Third Edition (ABAS-3), are integral components of comprehensive evaluations. The WISC-V assesses cognitive abilities, while the ABAS-3 evaluates adaptive skills critical for daily functioning. Together, these assessments contribute to a nuanced understanding of a child’s strengths and areas for growth.
